Rosemary Walnut Biscotti
Rosemary Walnut Biscotti

Yield:
48 biscotti

As a teenager I remember how the summer air hung heavy with the scent of ripe, juicy tomatoes as I rode my ten-speed from Philly to Jersey. Sometimes the perfume was so thick you could actually taste the tomatoes in the warm air. That fragrance and those memories of summer are the inspiration for this savory biscotti. They’re equally habit-forming whether dressed-up or eaten as is, but I suggest trying them with a dab of pungent gorgonzola cheese and a slice of sweet, ripe tomato. The flavors of fresh rosemary and caramelized walnuts in the biscotti will totally take off.

Michael's Confession

It all began when my sister gave us our “first” burgundy box as a gift for the weeklong stay during Thanksgiving of her, her husband and my 3 year old nephew and 1 year old niece.  She shipped it to us, so that it arrived while they were there.  Of course that led to us sharing the box with everyone!!  Our three daughters, ages 21, 19 and 17 love chocolate as much as I do and the black box soon was down to a few remaining pieces.

Our introduction to Recchiuti opened Pandora’s Box to the world of delectable chocolates.  Since then we have shipped chocolates to our clients for Valentines Day (twice) and other friends for special occasions.  Somewhere in the middle of one of our orders, I included a box just for me!!!

I intercepted the order when it arrived at our office and got “my box” out before anyone saw it.  I stored it in my desk and then snuck it out that evening and home where I placed it in a well hidden back corner of the bottom row of the refrigerator.  Over the winter, I would savor a piece from time to time with a great glass of wine next to the fire.

One evening I obviously forgot to dispose of the wrapper well enough.  First it was my wife who asked, “Is that a Recchiuti wrapper?”, I of course answered no, but the house was on alert and it would only be a matter of time before I was caught.

I actually made it all the way to Easter before the “secret” was exposed.  Having family over for the holiday means that you use all of the refrigerator space, and when my middle daughter was asked to get something from the refrigerator which was on the bottom shelf she came out with a smile and my “Hidden Box”.  Within the next moment, the kitchen was full of people all asking the same question, “Where did this come from and why is it nearly empty”.  My wife summoned me to the kitchen and my secret was exposed.  She confessed that she had known for “a while” and had been sharing the box without me knowing!

Needless to say, over the next day or so “my box’ was shared with everyone!

Make sure Dad shares
Make sure Dad shares
Even if your dad is a card-carrying chocoholic there are enough treats in the Sharing Box to go around. The surest way to make sure he shares his Recchiuti is to get him a box so big he can’t refuse.
