Like the recipe suggests, this recipe is a snap. It's really straightforward and simple, but these spicy little cookies lend themselves to all sorts of accompaniments. My favorites are vanilla bean ice cream and a drizzle of Burnt Caramel Sauce.

On a visit to San Francisco from the chocolate-challenged seat of government in Washington, DC, I discovered Recchiuti Confections at the Ferry Terminal Market. The staff was lovely, the confections divine. I left with some treats in hand and the knowledge that I must try each and every delectation in Recchiuti's repertoire. I had no idea, however, that soon Recchiuti chocolate would be part of my body toning and weight loss program!

The tantalizing emails began to arrive and over the next several months I found myself sampling some pretty heady stuff. My heart was stolen by two confections in particular: the Key Lime Apples and Key Lime Pears. They are the perfect way to end a meal, not to mention the ideal accompaniment to afternoon tea or a cup of bracing espresso.

I decided the Key Lime Apples and Key Lime Pears would make the perfect present for the personal trainers who are helping me get into shape, so I ordered enough to accompany the fresh apples and fresh pears I was presenting to these Adonis-like specimens. The fresh fruit arrived, beautiful and unblemished, and so did the boxes of the precious chocolate-enrobed slices. Somehow I just couldn't manage to give the trainers their complete gifts: the Recchiuti fruit stayed home with me! I treated myself to an apple slice or pear slice each day following my work-outs at the gym Miraculously, the weight came off and the comments rolled in! Could it be the heart-healthy flavonoids in the dark chocolate which covers the apples and pears? The walk to and from the gym? The workouts themselves? I don't know, but I do know what I am going to give the trainers - and myself - this holiday season and forever more: Key Lime Pears! Key Lime Apples!
